A hardware-in-the-loop simulation of a wind
energy conversion system is used to assess a MPPT strategy
for different velocities. The actual system is composed of the
blade, a mechanical power train, a squirrel cage induction
generator and power electronics. The experimental set-up
consists of a DC drive connected to the induction generator.
The DC machine is controlled to impose the same behavior as
the wind turbine to the induction generator. Fluctuations of
wind velocity and non-linear characteristics of the turbine are
taken into account. All numerous model and controls blocks
are organized according to Energetic Macroscopic
Representation for real-time implementation. A very simple
MPPT strategy without wind velocity measurement is
achieved using a look-up table. This strategy includes a
rotation speed limitation. Experimental results are provided
for weak and medium wind profiles.
