前端POS机用于记录销售过程产生的各种业务数据，如商品名、数量、价格、销售的时间、销售员等等，同时产生销售凭证给顾客。主要是起收集数据的作用。
后端的销售管理起存储和管理数据的作用。这些数据被传输到后端的销售管理系统，可以进行各种查询和统计分析。例如，通过查询可以了解哪个收款员什么时间销售了什么商品。例如一段时间的数据汇总后，可以分析出哪种商品比较畅销。
