虽然在 IEEE 802.16 系列标准正式叫 WirelessMAN，它已经商业化下的名称"WiMAX"（从"世界范围内的互操作性的微波接入"） 由 WiMAX 论坛产业联盟。论坛促进和认证的兼容性和互操作性的基于 IEEE 802.16 标准的产品。
